Start a study plan. Study together every day. Talk about school. Help your child:
Focus
Find a good place to study. Find a place that's quiet and lets him work.
Choose a study area in part of your home just for doing homework.
Make a box for things to study and a box for homework.
Be responsible
Ask your child's teachers for progress reports and report cards.
Talk with your child's teachers once a week if you can.
Use a notebook to communicate with his teachers:
Pass the notebook back and forth every day. This is great for your child!
The notebook will help you see your child's homework assignments and progress.
Use smiley face stickers in the notebook. This way, your child can see what the report says.
Talk about the day with your child. Do this while you are looking in the book.
Get rewards for good grades and hard work
Study with your child.
Do something together when the homework is finished.
Give your child a treat or watch a favorite movie together.
Give your child a big hug. Tell him how proud you are of him. This is something you can do every day. No one will get tired of it!
Be organized
Be Patient
Use a shoebox or drawer for homework supplies
Have your child decorate the outside of the shoebox.
You can put things like this in the shoebox: Ruler, pencil, map, globe, dictionary, scissors, colored pencils, papers, etc.
Put the shoebox where your child does his homework every night.
This will help your child work better.
Your child's teacher can give you more ideas.
